An intensive inspection of the Oxygen Generation Plant and pipeline system was conducted at the Central Hospital of Banaras Locomotive Works (BLW), Varanasi, on Friday as part of Fire Safety Week. The inspection was led by Principal Chief Medical Officer Dr. Devesh Kumar along with senior officials.

Special focus is being given to the functioning of all fire safety equipment at the BLW Central Hospital during Fire Safety Week. Authorities have also implemented special safety protocols for the PSA Oxygen Generation Plant located inside the hospital premises.

Oxygen Plant Declared ‘Highly Sensitive Zone’

During the inspection, the oxygen plant area was declared a “Highly Sensitive Zone” and additional safety arrangements were strengthened around the facility. Officials carried out a detailed review of the safety systems installed in the plant area.

Ventilation System Thoroughly Checked

The ventilation system installed in the oxygen enrichment control plant room was inspected to ensure that oxygen concentration levels do not exceed 23.5 percent, reducing the possibility of any fire-related hazard.

Complete Ban on Oil and Grease Usage

Under the fire safety protocol, the use of oil, grease, or petroleum-based lubricants in plant equipment has been completely prohibited. Officials stated that such substances may cause explosions when exposed to oxygen.

Employees Trained for Emergency Cut-Off

As part of Fire Safety Week activities, employees were trained on how to immediately shut off the main oxygen supply valve during emergency situations such as fire incidents. Emergency drills were also conducted during the inspection.

Strict Restrictions on Smoking and Mobile Phones

Officials instructed the installation of warning boards prohibiting smoking and the use of mobile phones within a 10-meter radius of the oxygen plant area to avoid any accidental hazards.

Senior Officials and Medical Staff Present

Senior Divisional Medical Officer Dr. Vishal Mishra, Assistant Materials Manager S.P. Shukla, and Mani Prakash Tripathi were present during the inspection. Nursing staff including Kamala Srinivasan, Chandrakala Rao, Sanju Lata Gautam, Sita Kumari, and other hospital employees also attended the inspection.
