Addressing a gathering in Hyderabad, Narendra Modi called for collective public participation to help India deal with global economic disruptions, supply chain challenges, and rising prices caused by international conflicts. He stressed that every citizen has a role to play in strengthening the nation during difficult times.
Patriotism means responsible living
PM Modi said patriotism is not only about sacrificing one’s life for the nation, but also about living responsibly and fulfilling one’s duties towards the country during challenging times.
Appeal to reduce petrol and diesel consumption
The Prime Minister urged citizens to cut fuel consumption by adopting simple lifestyle changes, including:
- Using metro systems and public transport wherever available
- Choosing car-pooling when private vehicles are necessary
- Preferring Indian Railways for transporting goods
- Increasing the use of Electric Vehicles wherever possible
Revive Covid-era efficiency measures
PM Modi also suggested bringing back some efficient practices adopted during the COVID-19 Pandemic, such as:
- Work-from-home arrangements
- Online conferences
- Virtual meetings
Save foreign exchange reserves
The Prime Minister appealed to citizens to help conserve foreign exchange by:
- Avoiding unnecessary foreign travel and overseas vacations
- Avoiding destination weddings abroad
- Promoting domestic tourism and celebrations within India
Avoid non-essential gold purchases
He requested citizens to avoid non-essential gold purchases for one year to reduce pressure on foreign exchange outflows and strengthen the national economy.
Prioritise Made-in-India products
PM Modi encouraged people to give preference to Make in India and locally manufactured goods, including daily-use products like shoes, bags, and accessories.
Reduce edible oil consumption
He also urged families to reduce edible oil consumption, saying it would improve both national economic health and personal well-being.
Special message for farmers
The Prime Minister appealed to farmers to:
- Reduce chemical fertiliser use by 50 percent
- Shift towards natural farming methods
- Protect soil health and reduce import dependence
- Increase the use of solar-powered irrigation pumps instead of diesel pumps
PM Modi said that if every citizen makes small but meaningful changes, India will be better prepared to face global economic challenges.
