VARANASI NEWS – BLW Launches Awareness and Cleanliness Drive Under World Environment Day–2026 Campaign

In line with the directives issued by the Railway Board, Banaras Locomotive Works (BLW) is observing the World Environment Day–2026 Campaign from 15 May to 5 June 2026 under the guidance of General Manager Shri Ashutosh Pant. The campaign focuses on spreading awareness about environmental conservation, cleanliness, waste management, and sustainable living among employees and the general public.
Environment and Cleanliness Pledge Marks Beginning of Campaign
The campaign began with an environmental conservation and cleanliness pledge ceremony. On the occasion, Principal Chief Mechanical Engineer Shri Vivek Sheel administered the pledge to officers and employees. Participants pledged to maintain environmental cleanliness, conserve water and energy, encourage plantation activities, and reduce plastic usage.
Employees also reaffirmed their commitment to maintaining a clean, green, and plastic-free campus.
Awareness Activities Conducted Across BLW Premises
To strengthen awareness regarding environmental protection and climate change, banners related to World Environment Day were displayed at prominent locations throughout the BLW campus. Environmental messages were also broadcast through digital notice boards.
In addition, announcements promoting cleanliness and environmental conservation were made through the public address (PA) system in workshop areas to reach a larger audience.
Waste Segregation Awareness Drives Organized
Volunteers from the St. John Ambulance Brigade and Civil Defence conducted awareness campaigns in residential colonies, distributing pamphlets and educating residents on proper waste segregation practices. Citizens were encouraged to separate dry and wet waste for effective disposal and recycling.
Simultaneously, employees working in workshop canteens were sensitized about scientific waste management methods and ways to reduce plastic consumption.
Intensive Cleanliness Drives Held in Key Divisions
Special cleanliness campaigns were organized in multiple work areas, including the Engine Division, Loco Division, and Stores Division. The initiative emphasized maintaining hygienic workplaces and ensuring safe working environments for employees.
Focus on Sustainable Lifestyle and Plastic Reduction
As part of the broader environmental campaign, special awareness programmes on “Reduction in Plastic Usage and Sustainable Lifestyle” were conducted. Employees and residents were encouraged to avoid single-use plastics, adopt reusable products such as water bottles, and practice eco-friendly habits in daily life.
Employees Show Enthusiastic Participation
Officers and employees actively participated in the programmes and reiterated their commitment towards environmental conservation, cleanliness, and sustainable development, reinforcing BLW’s dedication to a greener future.
