Banaras Locomotive Works (BLW), under the leadership of General Manager Shri Ashutosh Pant, celebrated World Environment Day Campaign–2026 with great enthusiasm from 15 May to 05 June 2026, following the directives of the Railway Board. The campaign culminated with an Environmental Awareness Seminar organized at the Technical Training Centre, alongside a series of green initiatives across the BLW campus.
In a major achievement for the organization, BLW was awarded the prestigious Gold Rating GreenCo Certification for its outstanding efforts in environmental sustainability and energy conservation. The recognition marks a significant milestone in BLW’s commitment towards sustainable industrial practices.
BLW Upgraded from Silver to Gold Rating
Congratulating officers and employees on the achievement, General Manager Shri Ashutosh Pant highlighted that BLW’s consistent efforts in environmental protection and energy efficiency have helped the organization upgrade its GreenCo Certification from the Silver Level to the Gold Rating.
Following a comprehensive assessment conducted by the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), Hyderabad, across ten evaluation modules, BLW secured 650 marks out of 1000, earning the coveted Gold Rating.
Environmental Awareness Seminar Organized
The Environmental Awareness Seminar held at the Technical Training Centre witnessed active participation from officers and employees. Chief Safety Officer Shri Jitendra Agrawal welcomed the Chief Guest, Principal Chief Mechanical Engineer Shri Vivek Sheel, by presenting him with a plant sapling and briefed the audience about the various activities conducted during the World Environment Day Campaign.
Representing the Civil Department, Senior Engineer Shri Amit Kumar delivered a detailed presentation showcasing BLW’s environmental initiatives and achievements.
Adding a creative touch to the event, the BLW Drama Party under the direction of senior artist Shri Sudhakar Mani presented a street play focused on environmental protection, spreading awareness about the importance of preserving nature.
Winners Honoured, Green Message Reinforced
During the seminar, Shri Vivek Sheel felicitated winners of painting and essay competitions organized on environmental themes. Addressing the gathering, he emphasized the importance of tree plantation and energy conservation and encouraged everyone to actively contribute towards environmental protection.
Principal Chief Engineer Shri Shailendra Kumar Singh also shared his views on environmental sustainability and the collective responsibility of society in preserving natural resources.
The programme was conducted by Safety Officer Shri Anoop Singh Vats, who also delivered the vote of thanks.
Massive Tree Plantation Drive Conducted
Following the seminar, officers participated in a large-scale tree plantation drive at the Officers’ Rest House premises, reinforcing BLW’s commitment to increasing green cover and promoting ecological balance.
The event was attended by Chief Vigilance Officer Shri Ankur Chandra, Chief Mechanical Engineer (Production & Marketing) Shri Ram Janam Chaube, Staff Council Joint Secretary Shri Pradeep Kumar Yadav, council members Shri Naveen Kumar Sinha and Shri Sushil Kumar Singh, along with a large number of officers and employees.
Roller Skating Rally Spreads Environmental Awareness
On the occasion of World Environment Day, another unique initiative was organized by the Institute, BLW, in the form of an environmental awareness roller skating rally from BLW Inter College to the BLW Auditorium.
The rally was flagged off by Chief Guest Shri Rajkumar Gupta, Vice President of the Institute and Senior Personnel Officer (Headquarters), along with Public Relations Officer Shri Rajesh Kumar. A large-scale plantation drive was also carried out in the Institute premises after the rally.
Children Participate in Wall Painting Programme
Earlier in the day, an environment-themed wall painting programme was organized at the Employees’ Club. The event was inaugurated by Shri Rajkumar Gupta and PRO Shri Rajesh Kumar.
A large number of children enthusiastically participated in the activity, expressing their commitment towards environmental conservation through creative artwork and colorful messages promoting a greener future.
BLW Sets Example in Sustainable Development
Through seminars, awareness campaigns, cultural performances, rallies and large-scale plantation drives, BLW has once again demonstrated its commitment to environmental sustainability. The achievement of the Gold Rating GreenCo Certification further strengthens its position as one of the leading environmentally responsible production units in Indian Railways.
